A method of isomerizing a feed material which has not undergone any special pretreatment such as desulfurization or a method of isomerizing a hydrocarbon using hydrogen containing a sulfur compound. The isomerization method is characterized by contacting hydrogen and a raw hydrocarbon containing sulfur compounds in an amount of 10 to 500 ppm in terms of sulfur amount by weight with a solid acid catalyst comprising a support containing a part consisting of zirconia and/or hydrated zirconia and a sulfuric acid ingredient deposited on the support. The isomerized hydrocarbon thus obtained preferably has a content of organic sulfur compounds of 10 ppm or lower in terms of sulfur amount by weight.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'isomérisation d'une charge d'alimentation n'ayant subi aucun prétraitement spécial, tel qu'une désulfuration, ou un procédé d'isomérisation d'un hydrocarbure au moyen d'hydrogène contenant un composé soufre. Ce procédé d'isomérisation est caractérisé par l'étape suivante consistant à mettre en contact de l'hydrogène et un hydrocarbure brut contenant des composés soufre dont la quantité pondérale de soufre est comprise entre 10 et 550 ppm, avec un catalyseur acide solide comprenant un support, dont une partie se compose de zircone et/ou de zircone hydratée, et un ingrédient à base d'acide sulfurique déposé sur le support. L'hydrocarbure isomérisé ainsi obtenu possède, de préférence, une teneur en composés organiques soufre de 10 ppm ou moins en terme de quantité pondérale de soufre.
