ABSTRACT: "Method of liquefying a gas and liquefier for carrying out the method". A gas at superatmospheric pressure is supplied via a first pre-cooling heat exchanger to a cryogenerator and is condensed there, while the condensate is then con- ducted through a liquid separator and is cooled and sub- cooled, respectively, in a second heat exchanger which is situated in liquid already produced in a thermally insu- lated reservoir. The sub-cooling is effected by means of a pressure controller downstream of the second heat exchanger and is regulated by the adjustment of the user pressure (second pressure). The cold for the first heat exchanger is extracted from the evaporated gas in the reservoir which was caused to evaporate by the second heat exchanger. The method is used inter alia in liquefiers for nitrogen, hydrogen, argon, methane, etc.
