A method of locating fires ignited by a lightning storm involves a step of flying an aircraft equipped with an infrared camera immediately behind the lightning storm and capturing infrared images of any anomalies which may be fires. This method is a proactive approach which leads to early detection of fires resulting from lightning strikes in order to minimize loss from such fires.
