A process for making 1,1-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane via the acid catalyzed reaction of phenol and 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanone containing an organic thiol co-catalyst is described wherein the organic thiol is rejuvenated by treatment with a halogen acid and recycled to a fresh mixture of phenol and 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanone to make additional 1,1-bis- (4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane.
Procédé de production de 1,1-bis-(hydroxy-4 phényl)triméthyl 3,3,5 cyclohexane par réaction, catalysée par un acide, du phénol et de la triméthyl 3,3,5 cyclohexanone renfermant un cocatalyseur thiol organique. Ledit procédé consiste à régénérer le thiol organique par traitement avec un acide halogéné et à le recycler pour donner un nouveau mélange de phénol et de triméthyl 3,3,5 cyclohexanone permettant d'obtenir un nouveau 1,1-bis-(hydroxy-4 phényl) triméthyl 3,3,5 cyclohexane.
