A composite abrasive compact is produced by placing strips of suitable abrasive material on a cemented carbide substrate. The strips each comprise abrasive particles, optionally with a particulate second phase, in an organic binder. The organic binder is first removed by volatilisation. Then, the cemented carbide substrate with the strips thereon is subjected to compact-producing conditions of elevated temperature and pressure.
