A method is provided for producing a cutting tool such as a twist drill, end mill or the like. The method includes the steps of providing an unbonded assembly comprising a cylindrical core (10) having ends (12, 14) and an elongate side surface (16) covered partially or completely by a coherent, unsintered layer (18) comprising ultra-hard abrasive particles for producing an ultra-hard material, subjecting the unbonded assembly to elevated temperature and pressure conditions at which the ultra-hard abrasive is crystallographically stable, recovering the sintered product which comprises a cylindrical core (10) and a layer of ultra-hard abrasive material bonded to the core and working the sintered product to produce one or more cutting edges in the layer of ultra-hard abrasive material.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de production d'un outil de coupe tel qu'un foret américain, une fraise en bout ou analogue. A cet effet, on commence par réaliser un ensemble non lié comprenant un noyau cylindrique (10) dont les extrémités (12, 14) et une surface latérale de forme allongée (16) sont recouvertes en tout ou partie d'une couche non frittée et cohérente (18) comprenant des particules abrasives ultra-dures se prêtant à la production d'un matériau ultra-dur. On fait subir à cet ensemble non lié des conditions de températures et de pression auxquelles l'abrasif ultra-dur reste cristallographiquement stable. On récupère le matériau fritté comprenant un noyau cylindrique (10) et une couche de matériau abrasif ultra-dur lié au noyau, et on usine le produit fritté de façon à réaliser au moins un tranchant dans la couche de matériau abrasif ultra-dur.
