A method of manufacturing a headliner assembly for use in the interior compartment of an automotive vehicle comprising the steps of: placing a mold release film (60) onto a concave mold surface (30) of a lower mold assembly (26) for providing a barrier against the mold surface; placing a fiber mat (62) on the mold release film; applying a foamable material (64) directly onto the fiber mat; expanding the foamable material around the fiber mat to embed the fiber mat therein; placing an adhesive film (66) onto a convex mold surface (16) of an upper mold assembly (14); positioning the lower mold assembly directly beneath the upper mold assembly; moving the upper mold assembly in mating engagement with the lower mold assembly to define a mold cavity between the convex mold surface and concave mold surface; curing the foamable material within the mold cavity; and bonding the mold release film and adhesive film to the foamable material with the fiber mat embedded therebetween. A layer of scrim (72) is then adhered to the mold release film and a layer of fabric (70) is adhered to the adhesive film for providing a decorative cover to the headliner assembly.
Procédé permettant de fabriquer un ensemble garniture de toit destiné à être utilisé dans l'habitacle d'une automobile, qui consiste à placer un film (60) de démoulage sur la surface concave (30) d'un ensemble moule inférieur (26) de manière à établir une barrière contre la surface du moule, à placer un matelas de fibres (62) sur le film de démoulage, à appliquer une matière fondue expansible directement sur le matelas de fibres, à provoquer l'expansion de la matière fondue expansible (64) autour du matelas de fibres pour encastrer le matelas de fibre dans ladite matière, à placer un film adhésif (66) sur la surface convexe (16) d'un ensemble moule supérieur, à placer l'ensemble moule inférieur directement au-dessus de l'ensemble moule supérieur (14), à déplacer l'ensemble moule supérieur de façon à le mettre en contact avec l'ensemble moule inférieur pour définir une cavité entre la surface convexe de moule et la surface concave de moule, à durcir la matière expansée à l'intérieur de la cavité et à coller le film de démoulage et le film adhésif à la matière expansée dans laquelle est encastré le matelas de fibres. Une couche de canevas (72) est ensuite collée sur le film de démoulage et une couche de tissu (70) est collée sur le film adhésif, l'ensemble garniture de toit étant ainsi doté d'un revêtement décoratif.
