A method of making a metal-terephthalate polymer from polyester ethylene terephthalate includes reacting polyester ethylene terephthalate with a metal compound in a non-aqueous melt environment at an elevated temperature. The ele-vated temperature will be greater than 270°C, and preferably rises to a temperature of about 520°C. The method is preferably car-ried out at a low pressure. The method may be used in the recycling of passenger vehicle tire shreds to produce a carbon black rich powder that is enriched in the metal-terephthalate polymer.

Procédé de fabrication dun polymère métal-téréphtalate à partir de polyester éthylène téréphtalate, comprenant létape consistant à faire réagir du polyester éthylène téréphtalate avec un composé métallique dans un milieu de fusion non aqueux à température élevée. La température élevée est supérieure à 270°C, et elle sélève de préférence à environ 520°C. Le procédé est de préférence exécuté sous basse pression. Le procédé peut être utilisé pour recycler des déchets de pneumatiques déchiquetés issus de véhicules de tourisme pour produire une poudre riche en noir de carbone enrichie en le polymère de métal-téréphtalate.
