ABSTRACT The specification describes a method of making a photovoltaic panel which comprises the steps of forming a roll of a web of a flexible substrate, unrolling the substrate roll substantially continuously into a partially evacuated space which includes at least one silicon depositing region therein where there is deposited over at least a portion of said substrate at least two thin, flexible silicon alloys which are of opposite conductivity (p and n) type. One or more of the alloys form one or more photovoltaic depletion regions. Subsequently, on the silicon alloys a thin flexible electrode-forming layer is applied on at least some of the photovoltaic depletion regions. An apparatus adapted to make a photovoltaic panel is also described.
