METHOD OF MAKING A SHAFT SEAL ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of making a shaft seal of the type in- cluding an elastomeric body and a polytetrafluoroethylene lip seal, comprising inserting a metal shell (if employed in the seal) and a polytetrafluoroethylene washer in a transfer or compression mold, and then closing the mold to simultaneously form the polytetrafluoroethylene washer into the desired shape, form the rubber into the desired shape and bond the rubber to the shell (if used) and to the polytetrafluoroethylene sealing element.
