A method of making a toothbrush head having two distinct portions. The toothbrush head is molded with the two distinct portions being spaced a predetermined distance from each other. The head is removed from the mold and the head portions are moved toward each other while the part of the head where the two portions connect is heated then cooled such that the head portions will be spaced apart a distance less than when molded. Tooth cleaning elements may be secured to one of the head portions during the molding process.
