A method of making a trilayer, shutdown battery separator has the following steps: extruding a polyethylene precursor; extruding a polypropylene precursor; forming a trilayer precursor, the trilayer precursor having the polyethylene precursor sandwiched between two polypropylene precursors; bonding the trilayer precursor; annealing the trilayer precursor; stretching the trilayer precursor; and forming thereby the battery separator.

Une méthode de fabrication d'un séparateur de batterie de sécurité à trois couches comporte les étapes suivantes : extrusion d'un précurseur de polyéthylène, formation d'un précurseur à trois couches, le précurseur à trois couches étant constitué du précurseur de polyéthylène entre les deux précurseurs de polypropylène; liaison du précurseur à trois couches; recuisson du précurseur à trois couches; étirement du précurseur à trois couches et formation ainsi du séparateur de batterie.
