The invention relates to a method of making an absorbent article, in which a composite elastic member (1) is attached to a topsheet, backsheet, core or any combination thereof. The composite elastic member (1) comprises a first, relatively unextensible layer (7, 15) and a second, elastically extensible layer (11). The elastically extensible layer (11) is attached to the unextensible layer (7, 15) in its relaxed state. The composite elastic member (1) is supplied from a supply station while in its relatively unelongatable state and is activated by stretching or "ring rolling" just prior to, or shortly after attaching the composite elastic member (1) to the topsheet, backsheet, core or any combination thereof. Alternatively, the method according to the invention comprises imparting extensibility to the composite elastic member (1) in a manner such that the composite elastic member (1) remains unelongatable in its longitudinal direction, followed by applying the composite elastic member (1) to the topsheet, backsheet core or any combination thereof. The method according to the invention allows supply of an elastic member (1) without need for tension control means and allows controlled design of the elastic properties of an absorbent article.
L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'un article absorbant dans lequel un élément élastique composite (1) est fixé à une feuille supérieure, à une feuille inférieure, à l'âme ou à une combinaison de ces dernières quelle qu'elle soit. Ledit élément élastique (1) comporte une couche relativement peu extensible (7,15) à laquelle est fixée, en position détendue, une deuxième couche élastiquement extensible (11). Ledit élément élastique composite (1) est fourni, à l'état relativement peu étirable, par une station d'alimentation avant d'être activé par étirement ou au moyen de cylindres cannelés, juste avant ou peu de temps après que l'élément élastique composite (1) a été fixé à la feuille supérieure, à la feuille inférieure, à l'âme ou à une combinaison de ces dernières quelle qu'elle soit. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, le procédé consiste à conférer de l'extensibilité audit élément élastique composite (1), de sorte que celui-ci reste étirable dans son axe longitudinal avant qu'il soit appliqué sur la feuille supérieure, la feuille inférieure, l'âme ou une combinaison de ces dernières. Ce procédé permet la production d'un élément élastique (1) sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'utiliser des moyens de contrôle de la tension, ainsi que la modulation des propriétés élastiques de l'article absorbant à produire.
