ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for making an article such as a chair seat or the like is disclosed with the method including: releasably attaching a rigid insert comprising fiberboard to the first half of a mold, said rigid insert being of the general shape of, but smaller than, the article to be produced to leave a peripheral gap portion, said rigid insert and said first half of the mold having an air permeable material extending from between them outward toward the edges of the first half of the mold, said air permeable material being centrally discontinuous across essentially all of the rigid insert to be provided generally around a peripheral portion of the aperture of the second half of a mold; coating the cavity of said second half of the mold with a release agent; inserting a liquid foamable urethane plasatic material into said cavity of the second half of the mold, said cavity being of the shape of the article being produced; placing the two mold halves together with the air permeable material extending from the peripheral portion of the aperture to the extending of the mold; allowing the urethane plastic material to cure and form a rigid hard structure throughout while expanding around the sides of the rigid insert; and removing the finished foamed plastic article from the mold with the rigid insert remaining in the foamed plastic to become an integral part thereof.
