A method is provided for making a gas diffusion layer for an electrochemical cell comprising the steps of: a) combining carbon particles and one or more surfactants in a typically aqueous vehicle to make a preliminary composition, typically by high shear mixing; b) adding one or more highly fluorinated polymers to said preliminary composition by low shear mixing to make a coating composition; and c) applying the coating composition to an electrically conductive porous substrate, typically by a low shear coating method.

L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'une couche de diffusion gazeuse pour une cellule électrochimique, qui comprend les étapes consistant: a) à combiner des particules de carbone et au moins un surfactant dans un milieu typiquement aqueux pour fabriquer une composition préliminaire, typiquement par mélange à cisaillement élevé, b) à ajouter au moins un polymère hautement fluoré à cette composition préliminaire par mélange à faible cisaillement pour fabriquer une composition de revêtement, et c) à appliquer cette composition de revêtement sur le substrat poreux électroconducteur, typiquement à l'aide d'un procédé de revêtement à faible cisaillement.
