A method of synthesizing trimethylene carbonate, which includes the steps of reacting 1,3-propanediol and phosgene in vapor form, providing a combination of temperature and pressure at which trimethylene carbonate is in its vapor phase, providing a residence time sufficient to react 1,3-propanediol and phosgene to trimethylene carbonate, condensing the trimethylene carbonate vapors, and isolating the condensed trimethylene carbonate. The present method advantageously does not require the use of catalysts and the associated expense of recovering and/or recycling or disposing of catalyst residues.

L'invention concerne un procédé de synthèse de carbonate de triméthylène consistant à faire réagir 1,3-propanédiol avec du phosgène sous forme de vapeur, à produire une combinaison de température et de pression dans laquelle le carbonate de triméthylène est en phase vapeur, à produire un temps de séjour suffisant pour faire réagir 1,3-propanédiol avec du phosgène de manière à obtenir du carbonate de triméthylène, à condenser les vapeurs de carbonate de triméthylène, et à isoler le carbonate de triméthylène condensé. Avantageusement, ce procédé ne nécessite pas de catalyseurs ce qui évite les coûts associés de récupération et/ou de recyclage ou de mise en dépôt des résidus de catalyseur.
