A method of manufacturing a glue-laminated structural wood member (10) for bearing a structural load (16) including bonding together multiple elongate wood segments (12) and synthetic fiber reinforcement (24, 30) with their lengths generally aligned with the length of the member (10). The synthetic fiber reinforcement (24, 30) includes multiple synthetic fiber strands (52, 56) held within a resin matrix and low cost fiber edges (54).
