ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A series of equally spaced holes are formed in a slide fastener stringer tape including synthetic fiber by thrusting and melting away tape portions spaced along a marginal edge of the tape on and between an ultrasonically vibrating horn and an endless series of anvil teeth successively pressable against the horn. The stringer tape is then moved away from the horn so as to be cooled for thereby setting the holes. Thereafter, a series of coupling elements are injection-molded onto the stringer tape over the holes. The advance in the art is in that by using solely the melting-away procedure, the holes are dimensionally stable. The threads are prevented from fraying in the holes, with the resulting improved anchoring of the elements on the tape.
