ABSTRACT: In a method of manufacturing an electric discharge tube at least one of the components of the tube is subjected to a treatment in a vessel sealed from the atmosphere. The envelope of said vessel con- sists of at least two parts which are sealed against each other hermetically with the interposition of a gallium-containing material in the liquid state. At least one of the said parts preferably forms already part of the final envelope of the tube to be manu- factured, while a gallium-containing material is also used for the final seal of the tube. This method is suitable in particular for the manufacture of an electric discharge tube having a radiation-sen- sitive layer vapour-deposited on a part of the envelope, for example, television camera tubes and photomultiplier tubes.
