27 ABSTRACT: A method of manufacturing an elongate article, in particular an optical cable which comprises a carrier member having channels or bores and is provided with elongate elements, for example, optical fires, the elon- gate element being inserted into an end of a channel or bore and the carrier member being subjected to a periodic movement, the elements moving in the channel or bore under the influence of the periodic movement and as a result of their mass inertia. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method and to elongate anti- ales, for example, optical cables, manufactured by means of the method.
