ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a method of manufacturing a comminuting disc for use in a wood pulp refining machine in which rotary and stationary comminuting members define refining chambers for the flow of paper stock, said disc comprising a metal base plate with comminuting ribs or blades extending therefrom which method comprises placing a plurality of previously cold rolled ribs or blades in the desired pattern for defining a comminuting area disposing at least two concentric ring shaped base members of prismatic cross- section on said ribs in a plane above the plane of said ribs, said ring shaped base members defining ring shaped spaces therebetween, the ends of said ribs extending beyond the innermost and outermost of said rings, attaching said rings and said rib elements by welding and filling the spaces between said rings up to a level above the welding between said ribs and said rings with a corrosion resistant filler.
