Nickel is molten and evaporated within a crucible placed within a plasma reactor, so as to yield a nickel powder. At least a part or the whole of a surface layer of the crucible in contact with nickel is covered with a coating layer. For the coating layer, a material made of an ingredient employed in an electronic component using the nickel powder in an electrode or a material mainly composed of this ingredient is used. Alternatively, the whole crucible is constituted by a material made of an ingredient employed in an electronic component using the nickel powder in an electrode or a material mainly composed of this ingredient.
