ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: This invention is concerned with a method of manufacturing shaped articles from crystalline acrylonitrile polymers and copolymers. This method comprising the steps fo: - shaping a solution of the crystalline acrylonitrile homo-polymer or copolymer in a mixture containing 50 to 99.5% by weight of a solvent and 0.5 to 50% by weight of a non-solvent to the desired final shape; - cooling the shaped solution to a temperature below the gelation point of the solution until the solution gelates, without changing its composition and shape, to form a shaped thermoreversible gel; and - removing the solvent from the shaped thermorever- sible gel by means of a liquid miscible with the solvent but incapable of dissolving polyacrylonitrile at temperatures lower that the gelation point of the solution. This method makes it possible to easily work cyrstalline acrylonitrile homo-polymers and copolymers, for example in open molds or on the surface of liquids immiscible with the solutions.
