ABSTRACT The invention provides a method of and an apparatus for making a casting from a mass of dry particulate material and a liquid which co-acts with the dry material. It is particularly, though not exclusively, concerned with the production of concrete castings. In the method negative pressure is applied over a first portion of the surface of the dry particulate material, e.g. over one side of the material, and liquid is distributed over a second portion of that surface, e.g. over the opposite side of the dry material. The negative pressure causes the particulate material to be compacted and draws the liquid into the particulate material.
