ABSTRACT This invention provides a mounting method for abrasive grinding wheels in disc or attrition mills operated at high speeds. Stone grinding discs are placed under a compressive load at mounting sufficient to counter tension loads during use. The compression loading is preferably provided by taper elements incorporating the wheel itself or by elements other than the wheel, such as fluid actuated clamps and elements external to the wheel that induce compression.
