ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is provided for obtaining liquid hydrocarbons in a destructive distillation process. The method includes the step of first pulverizing media, which contain liquid and solid carbon-hydrogen-contain- ing substances, to particle sizes of less than 10 mm. The pulverized media are then thermally treated to produce a flue stream of hydrocarbon vapors. Vaporization materials in the flue stream thereof are at least partially rapidly vaporized to generate a product flow and the entire process heat necessary for such thermal treatment step. The process heat is supplied directly with the product flow to the thermal treatment step. Finally, hydrocarbon vapors are condensed to form liquid hydrocarbons.
