The invention relates to a method of preparing multimetallic hydrotalcites, the physicochemical characteristics thereof and the use of same as sulphur oxide (SOx) reducing materials, such as SO2 or SO3 which are contained in gaseous streams, particularly in flue gases emitted by the regeneration section of the fluid-bed catalytic cracking process. The inventive method improves the SOx absorption capacity per unit of specific area of multimetallic hydrotalcite obtained and the absorption and regeneration speeds of the calcination products of the aforementioned hydrotalcites, with the incorporation of ternary and/or quaternary cations in the laminae of said precursor materials. In order to discover the effect of the composition of said hydrotalcites, a combination of physical and chemical methods were applied such as to characterise same by means of X-ray diffraction, textural analysis, CO2 absorption microcalorimetry and, primarily, SO2 oxidation reduction.

La présente invention concerne un procédé d'obtention d'une série d'oxydes mixtes multimétalliques dérivés de composés du type hydrotalcite. Dans cette invention sont présentées les caractéristiques physiques des hydrotalcites multimétalliques et leur application comme matières réductrices d'oxyde de soufre (SO¿x?) telles que (SO¿2? ou SO¿3?) contenus dans les courants gazeux, notamment dans les gaz de combustion émis par la section de régénération du processus de désintégration de fluide catalytique (FCC). Ces matières peuvent être utilisées également à la fin précitée dans les gaz de combustion du charbon ou de combustion d'hydrocarbures dans des centrale génératrices d'énergie et/ou dans des installations chimiques. Le procédé utilisé améliore la capacité d'absorption de SO¿x? par unité de surface spécifique de matière obtenue, objet de la présente invention, sa vitesse d'absorption et sa vitesse de régénération des produits de calcination des hydrotalcites mentionnés du fait que sont contenus des cations tertiaires et/ou quaternaires dans les couches de ces matières.
