ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A compaction roller assembly and a method of operating it. The assembly comprises a draw frame and a non-circular lobed compaction roller connected via its axle to the draw frame. The assembly has restraint means mounted on the frame which is slidably engageable during rolling with one or both of the roller ends, and the method involves slidingly engaging the roller ends during rolling with the restraint means, to restrain undesired movement of the roller relative to the frame.
