A method of operation of pressurized fuel channel type nuclear heavy water moderated reactor is provided that can be used for example, for a CANDU type reactor. By increasing an annulus gas pressure, the reactor coolant pressure (primary heat transport pressure) can be significantly increased above the maximum allowable pressure of the pressure tubes. This allows to increase secondary steam pressure generated in boilers to 10 MPa and greater. This will improve thermal efficiency of steam cycle and increase a turbine-generator output. This invention can also be used for supercritical reactors and NG CANDU reactors. High-pressure steam can also be used for industrial applications, such as heavy oil extraction from underground oil deposits.
