ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Paneling of thin walled metal containers subjected to vacuum conditions after filling is minimized by pressurizing the container at pressures substantially above atmospheric pressure with an inert gas having low absorption in liquids. By imposing an internal positive pressure in the container of about 5 to about 25 psig with a gas such as nitrogen, metal containers having wall thicknesses of 6 mils or less can be utilized in hot filling operations without encountering paneling after the sealed container and its contents have cooled to room temperature.
