A method of performing maintenance actions on the spans of a mesh- restorable network is disclosed. The method addresses the problem of scheduling maintenance outages on spans of the network, whereby maintenance actions can be performed on the spans. The method comprises the steps of: determining, for each possible pair-wise selection of spans in the network, a first indication of risk of performing a maintenance action on each of the spans of the pair simultaneously; and sequentially performing a maintenance action on one span of span pairs having a particular first indication of risk that is above a predetermined threshold.
