A wood compressing/permanent-fixing method which compresses wood and permanently fixing the compressed condition by heat-treating without drying, for practical use as lumber. A method of producing consolidated wood by heat- treating compressed wood in a consolidated condition and fixing the consolidated condition, characterized in that air-dried wood containing 12% of water is used as wood to be compressed, the air-dried wood housed in a compression mold in contact with the inner wall surface of the mold is compressed at a compression ratio of at least 50% to form compressed wood, then the compressed wood retained in the compression mold in a consolidated condition is heat-treated while kept air-tight so as to fix the compressed condition of the compressed wood.

On décrit un procédé de compression/fixation permanente du bois dans lequel on comprime le bois et on le fixe de manière permanente au moyen d'un traitement thermique sans séchage, afin de l'utiliser ensuite en tant que bois d'oeuvre. Un procédé de production de bois consolidé qui consiste à traiter thermiquement du bois comprimé pour obtenir un état consolidé, puis à fixer ledit bois dans cet état, se caractérise par le fait que du bois séché à l'air contenant 12 % d'eau est utilisé en tant que bois destiné à être comprimé. Le bois séché à l'air placé dans un moule de compression en contact avec la surface de la paroi interne du moule est comprimé à un taux de compression au moins égal à 50 % pour former du bois comprimé, puis le bois comprimé retenu dans le moule de compression sous une forme consolidée est traité thermiquement alors qu'il est hermétiquement enfermé pour fixer le bois comprimé dans cet état de compression.
