A method for permanently joining a first optical fibre made of a glass having a low glass transition temperature, and a second optical fibre made of a glass having a high glass transition temperature, wherein a glue is applied between the facing end surfaces of said first and second optical fibres and on the end parts of the fibres, adjacent to said surfaces. The glue is then exposed to the action of a polymerisation radiation, applied so as to guarantee a uniform polarisation and a time-stable joint.
