ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for filling cavities in unfinished walls with loose-fill insulation is described. An impermeable membrane is placed over the cavities and stapled to the studs and joists of the wall. One or more access holes for each cavity are formed in the membrane relatively close to the top and/or bottom of the cavity. The insulation is blown into one of the cavities and simultaneously air is withdrawn from the adjacent cavity thereby causing a seepage of air from the first to the second, adjacent cavity. The method enables the insulation to compact to a higher, more desirable degree than with unaided filling.
