ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is disclosed for predicting the per- formance of a drill bit. By using a generalized model, with bit description, operating conditions and rock prop- erties as inputs, the rate of penetration and duration for the bit can be predicted. Further, model is based on the- oretical considerations of single-cutter rock interaction and can include a variable for cutter wear.
