ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of preparing an aluminate solution from sinter containing alkaline aluminates is based on the diges- tion of the sinter by an alumina production recycled liquor and by a weak alkaline solution, whereby a suspension is obtained whose liquid phase is aluminate solution. The method also incorporates a counter-flow multi-step washing of suspension solid phase, washing waters being obtained at each washing step, weak alkaline solution being obtained at the first step, and washed mud, at the last step. Fed to the digestion process, the sinter is taken in an amount directly proportional to the total flow rate of the recycled liquor and of the weak alkaline solution, the recycled liquor being taken in an amount directly proportional to the flow rate of the weak alkaline solution, the weak alkaline solution being taken in an amount directly proportional to the caustic soda content in the washed mud. The total volume of the suspension solid phase and of the washing water is kept constant either by varying the quantity of the washing water fed to a given rinsing step, or, at the last step, by varying the quantity of the water fed for washing. Caustic soda concentration in the aluminate solution, alka- line module of the aluminate solution, and caustic soda con- tent in the washed mud are kept constant within the limits specified by the requirements of the manufacturing process. Compared to the known methods, the proposed method has the advantages which follows: an increased extraction of useful components into solution, a reduction losses of aluminium oxide and of alkaline with the washed mud, stabilized com- position of the aluminate solution obtained, as well as a rise in the efficiency of filtering process, and a reduc- tion in the viscosity of suspension obtained.
