A process is recited for plating elongated current collectors with indium. The current collectors have particular utility in alkaline electrochemical cells, particularly zinc/manganese dioxide alkaline cells containing "zero-added" mercury. The process of the invention involves electroplating conductive wire with indium and then drawing the plated wire to the lesser diameter. The drawn plated wire may then be cut to the desired lengths, typically in the shape of a nail, for use as current collectors within the alkaline cell.

Procédé appliqué pour le plaquage d'indium sur des collecteurs de courant de forme allongée. Les collecteurs de courant sont employés en particulier dans les piles électrochimiques alcalines, notamment dans les piles électrochimiques alcalines au dioxyde de zinc et de manganèse ne renfermant aucun mercure d'addition. Le procédé consiste à plaquer un fil conducteur d'indium puis à étirer le fil ainsi plaqué pour réduire son diamètre. Le fil plaqué étiré peut ensuite être découpé aux longueurs désirées, d'une manière générale sous la forme d'un clou, pour être utilisé comme collecteurs de courant à l'intérieur d'une pile alcaline.
