ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of preparing phenolaldehyde foamed plastics by way of mixing a phenolaldehyde oligomer, acidic catalyst containing sulpho groups in the aromatic ring, a foaming agent and a modifying agent which comprises a compound of complex-forming metals in the form of oxides, hydroxides, salts of mixtures thereof. The resulting mixture is foamed and cured. Introduction of said modifying agent ensures an improved water-resistance of the foamed plastic being pre- pared.
