A Method of Preparing Sulfonyl isocyanates Abstract of the Invention Sulfonyl isocyanates having the formula R-SO2-NCO (wherein R is a C1- to C18- alkyl radical, a phenyl radical, a C1- to C18- alkyl phenyl radical or an isocyanate group) are obtained in high yield and excellent purity by reaction of the corresponding sulfonyl chlorides R-SO2-Cl with trimethyl silyl isocynate in the presence of catalytic amounts of Lewis acids. The preferred Lewis acids are halides having the formula AXn (A = B, Al, Ti, Sn, V, Sb, Fe or Zn; n = valence of A).
