Abstract of the Disclosure A process for preparing a trifluoromethyl- phenol and trifluoromethylphenyl benzyl ether which comprises heating a trifluoromethylhalobenzene with a sodium benzylate to form a trifluoromethylphenyl benzyl ether and optionally hydrogenolysing the ether. The trifluoromethylphenyl benzyl ethers are new compounds useful for preparing trifluoromethylphenol, and intermediate in the preparation of psychotropic agents.
