A process for the preservative or remedial treat- ment of timber or wood based products with a boron based preservative, comprising contacting the timber with liquid preservative comprising a reactive boron compound after first drying the timber sufficiently to allow rapid pen- etration of the preservative into the wood, whereby boron or a compound of boron becomes deposited within the wood.
