A method of processing a stream of liquid chlorine containing ni-trogen trichloride from a chloralkali plant. The liquid stream is received into a vaporizer in which it is evaporated 1O1 chlorine gas and nitrogen trichlo-ride gas. The gas stream is processed by destroying the nitrogen trichloride gas, for example in a superheater or a catalyt-ic bed. The processed gas stream is recy-cled to the chlorine production train of the chloralkali plant. The process avoids the use of organic solvents to decom-pose the nitrogen trichloride and the cre-ation of a waste stream requiring further handling.
L'invention porte sur un procédé de traitement d'un flux de chlore liquide contenant du trichlorure d'azote provenant d'une installation chlore/soude. Le flux de liquide est reçu dans un vaporisateur dans lequel il est évaporé en chlore gazeux et en trichlorure d'azote gazeux. Le flux de gaz est traité par destruction du trichlorure d'azote gazeux, par exemple dans un surchauffeur ou un lit catalytique. Le flux de gaz traité est recyclé vers la chaîne de production de chlore de l'installation chlore/soude. Le procédé évite l'utilisation de solvants organiques pour décomposer le trichlorure d'azote et la création d'un flux de rejet nécessitant un traitement supplémentaire.
