A method of producing a 3-hydroxybutyraldehyde derivative, in particular, an optically active 3-hydroxybutyraldehyde derivative which is useful as an intermediate of drugs, etc. Namely, a method characterized by comprising converting a 3-hydroxybutyrate derivative into an alcohol derivative by a reduction reaction and then deriving it into the desired aldehyde derivative by an oxidation reaction with the use of a nitroxyl compound and a cooxidant. Thus, a 3-hydroxybutyraldehyde derivative having high qualities (containing only a small amount of a low alcohol derivative) can be produced by a convenient method without resorting to a reaction under an extremely low temperature conditions.

L~invention décrit un procédé de production d~un dérivé 3-hydroxybutyraldéhyde, en particulier un dérivé 3-hydroxybutyraldéhyde présentant une activité optique et utile en tant qu~intermédiaire de médicaments, etc. Ledit procédé est caractérisé en ce qu~il comprend la conversion d~un dérivé 3-hydroxybutyrate en alcool par une réaction de réduction, puis la dérivation de l'alcool en dérivé aldéhyde désiré par une réaction d'oxydation, en utilisant un composé nitroxyle et un cooxydant. Il est ainsi possible de produire de manière pratique un dérivé 3-hydroxybutyraldéhyde ayant des qualités supérieures (ne contenant qu~une petite quantité de dérivé alcool), sans devoir recourir à une réaction à température extrêmement basse.
