A method is provided for producing a hitch receiver from a blank of construction material in a way that significantly reduces the waste material that is generated. The method includes the step of cutting a side frame bracket with at least one section of reduced profile from the blank of construction material. In addition, the method includes the step of cutting other component parts for the hitch receiver from an expanse of the blank of construction material preserved by the reduced profile section of the side frame bracket. The method also includes the step of reducing the scrap material generated by the cutting of the blank of construction material to less than 5.1 % of the total surface area and weight of the blank.
