A method of producing bearing surfaces from powder metal blanks comprising: blending carbon and ferro alloys and lubricant with compressible elemental iron powder, pressing the blending mixture to form the powder metal blank, high temperature sintering the blank in a reducing atmosphere, compressing the powdermetal blanks so as to produce a densified layer having a bearing surface, and then heat treating the densified layer.

L'objet de la présente invention est un procédé pour fabriquer des surfaces d'appui à partir de flans composés de poudre métallique; le procédé en question comporte les étapes suivantes : combinaison d'alliages carbonés, de ferro-alliages et d'un lubrifiant avec de la poudre de fer élémentaire; compactage à la presse du mélange pour l'obtention de flans composés de poudre métallique; frittage haute température des flans en atmosphère réductrice; compression des flans pour l'obtention d'une couche densifiée formant la surface d'appui, et traitement thermique de la couche densifiée.
