ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A rotary cement kiln is operated with predried paper sludge in a secondary combustion period. The predrying of the paper sludge from a moisture content of about 50% by weight to a moisture content of about 30% by weight is effected with flue gas from the inlet end of the rotary kiln.
