METHOD OF PRODUCING CHLORINE DIOXIDE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved process is provided for producing chlorine dioxide by the reaction of sulfur dioxide and sodium chlorate by feeding streams of gaseous sulfur dioxide and chlorine in counter- current flow to a stream of aqueous sodium chlorate in a packed column to substantially eliminate plugging of the column, the sulfur dioxide being introduced into the bottom portion of said column and the chlorine being introduced into the central portion of said column.
