ABSTRACT A method of producing continuous butt welded pipe from a skelp comprises treating the lateral edges of the skelp so that the roughness of the surface is reduced to less than 20 microns, and then bending the skelp into tubular form so that the lateral edges of the skelp are brought into mutual abutment and thereafter welded together.
