ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification discloses a method of producing electrically insulating, highly flexible, solderable coatings on electrical conductors of fibre material. The fibres or conductors are coated with a catalyst and with a solution of masked isocyanates and polyester resins which contain additives and/or auxiliary materials known in the lacquer art, and optionally compounds containing amino groups, by heating to a working temperature above 140°C. The invention is characterized in that the masked isocyanates are those which are masked with compounds with reactive hydrogen in the molecule selected from the group: (a) .beta.-dicarbonyl compounds which are capable of end formation; (b) acid amides with 1 or 2 amide hydrogen atoms; (c) hydroxyl amines and their reaction products with carbonyl compounds; (d) imines with an imine hydrogen atom; and (e) lactams with melting or sublimation points below about 25°C. Moreover, the solvents are araliphatic and/or aliphatic ketones or alcohols with 1 to 10 carbon atoms and a boiling point of at most 250°C, wherein the alcohols optionally contain ether oxygen atoms or keto groups or are esterified. The use of such coatings substantially eliminates undesirable smells and coatings having desirable properties are formed.
