ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A method of producing orthosilicid acid tetraalkyl esters whose ester component contains 2 to 6 carbon atoms, which comprising reacting metallic silicon with an alcohol in the presence of at least 70% of the desired orthosilicic acid tetraalkyl ester and the corresponding alkali alcoholate. The method of the invention is characterized in that the reaction is carried out in the presence of an additional catalyst selected from the group consisting of ether alcohols and alkanol amines. This method permits to increase the reac- tion rate and to obtain higher yields with respect to the silicon used as starting material.
